Auditory Understanding Activities

We will work on activities to help you understand what you hear.  To do this, you will work on activities with a family member or helper.

Remind your family and friends that you need extra time to answer.

It may be hard for you to understand information when more than one person is talking. It may also be hard if too much is going on around you. Talk with one person at a time.

You may need to ask people to help you understand.  They can:

  • gesture

  • draw pictures

  • write words

  • show you pictures

Activities

Your family member or helper can do these activities with you:

Read you a short newspaper or magazine story and then ask you questions. The questions can be:

  • yes or no

  • multiple choice

  • open ended

Name common pictures or objects and ask you to point to them.

Give you simple directions such as:

  • Raise your arm.

  • Open your mouth.

  • Change the TV station.

Ask you yes or no questions such as:

  • Do you live in Duluth?

  • Do you have a dog?

  • Do you have a cat?

Ask you questions which give you choices:

  • Do you live in Duluth or Superior?

  • Do you like ham or turkey sandwiches?

Describe pictures and ask you to point to them.
